With the 4th annual production, the Starliters presented a new original “play within a musical” written by Celeste Lauer Yanke and Ellen Factor.
Broadway Blast! revolved around a community theater group celebrating their 30th anniversary of producing musical theater productions. The producer as “M.C.” helped the group relive, remember and recreate their most beloved scenes from past musical shows. Many Broadway shows, such as My Fair Lady, Fiddler on the Roof, West Side Story, Phantom of the Opera and Dancing Queen from Mamma Mia, were included.
With the growth in the Starliters group, a new way of presenting the shows had to be developed. Set units were built to raise the stage levels and platforms to extend the stage were purchased. Projections on a newly-built screen and specialty lights helped the audience to see and enjoy the shows in a new way. The group had grown to the point that the “the choral orchestra” began sitting at the front of the stage to support each of the ensembles performing on the stage. This provided the onstage groups with singing support and enabled the ensembles onstage room to dance, sing and act.
